IFLP Announces Charter Sponsors – Innovative Training Boot Camps Launch May 14, 2018

CHICAGO (May 11, 2018) – The Institute for the Future of Law Practice (IFLP or “I-flip”) announced today that with the support of its Charter Sponsors – Cisco, Chapman and Cutler LLP, and Elevate – the first of two intensive boot camp training programs will launch at Northwestern Pritzker School of Law and Colorado Law on May 14, 2018.

The boot camps, which feature a basic track for rising 2Ls and an advanced track for 3Ls, are designed to provide the knowledge and skills necessary for effective 21st-century law practice. Topics includes basic accounting and business principles; professional communication and teamwork; exposure to core elements of mergers and acquisitions, litigation management, IP strategy, high-volume commercial contracting, and basic principles of project management, process improvement, and data analytics.

The training builds a talent pipeline that aligns the interests of law students, law schools, and legal employers – to reinforce and elevate the importance of professional values for all those working in the legal sector. Students put their new skills into practice following the boot camps via paid internships and field placements with sophisticated legal employers seeking to develop a deeper and more reliable source of legal talent.

“IFLP is a partnership between all members of the legal ecosystem – corporate law departments, law firms, alternative legal service providers and legal academics – to help modernize legal education and dramatically upgrade the skills of the next generation of legal professionals,” said Bill Mooz, IFLP Interim Executive Director and Founder of the Colorado Tech Lawyer Accelerator. “To get off the ground, we needed a marquee legal department, law firm, and law company to support our idea,” said Professor William Henderson. “Cisco, Chapman, and Elevate stepped up big time as Charter Sponsors with the leadership, resources and other support necessary for us to get IFLP off the ground.”

“The practice and technology skills IFLP is teaching are critical to the success of today’s lawyers and are not otherwise a significant part of lawyer education and development,” noted Tim Mohan, Chapman and Cutler’s Chief Executive Partner. “We are excited to support such an innovative and timely program.”

"Young attorneys will accelerate their careers if they understand how their clients’ businesses operate,” stated Steve Harmon, Vice President and Deputy General Counsel at Cisco. “The disciplines that IFLP is introducing law students to are what employers believe are critical to long-term success in the evolving legal industry.”

“Whether you are buying or selling legal services, the baseline level of sophistication is going up,” commented Liam Brown, Founder and Executive Chairman of Elevate Services. “IFLP provides a vehicle for industry stakeholders to share know-how, upgrade skills, create training programs, and source entry-level legal talent. We are proud to support IFLP because we think it has the potential to be an industry-level solution.”
